At key locations during the flight we cast our minds back to how things would have appeared during the Japanese air raids of February 1942 and the devastating effects of Cyclone Tracy which made landfall in the early hours of Christmas Day 1974.
Cyclone Tracy took 71 lives, destroyed more than 70 percent of Darwin’s buildings and left more than 50% of the then 48,000 inhabitants homeless.
Compared to fixed wing aircraft, our helicopters have enhanced manoeuvrability and are fitted with oversized viewing windows creating a premium scenic flight experience. Your pilot can easily adjust speed, altitude and direction of travel in response to wildlife sightings or other points of interest while ensuring passengers on both sides of the aircraft receive equal chance to capture that perfect photo opportunity.
All guests are supplied with headsets fitted with voice activated microphones to enjoy the live inflight commentary and allow conversation directly with your pilot and other passengers.
This flight provides countless photo opportunities. The option of flying with the helicopter doors removed is a safe and common practice ensuring unrestricted viewing by removing window reflections in your photographs and providing welcome natural air-conditioning in the warmer summer months.
Please make your way to the Nautilus Aviation landing site in Charles Darwin National Park at least 15 minutes prior to your flight departure. Park entrance off Tiger Brennan Drive, Winnelli is approximately a 10-12 minute drive from Darwin CBD.
Please note: our helicopter will be incoming from our heliport at Noonamah so don’t be concerned if we not there on your arrival.
